FS1

Welcome to FS1 smiley

Miss Fieldsend, Mrs Dannat and Miss Markham

Here in Foundation 1 we welcome children between the ages of 3 and 4. We follow a curriculum which enables children to learn in a safe, exciting and nurturing environment.

Throughout the year children are observed continuously following the EYFS Development Matters framework. This is broken down into three primary areas and four specific areas. These areas are:

Prime:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

Specific

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

We observe children as they play and interact and will enhance their learning along the way with a range of fun resources. We believe it is important to stimulate children by planning activities that will support their learning and development based around their interests, wherever possible.
And to top it off we will have lots of fun along the way!

Parental Engagement

We want all children in Foundation 1 to feel happy, safe and valued. In order to succeed at this we believe it is extremely important to work closely with our parents. As well as daily discussions with the teaching staff we have created two specific areas where parents can celebrate their child’s achievements.

One area is for parents to write down any comments for the staff members to read, this can include sharing knowledge about children’s interest, needs and progress. The other is for parents to bring in any pieces of work of photos of their children for us to display and celebrate. These displays are in the F1 classroom and any parent contribution is welcomed.

We have ‘stay and play’ sessions throughout the year, where parents get the opportunity to spend time with their children in their learning environment. Please do come along, they have been a huge success so far!

Reading

Bug Club http://www.dcpschool.co.uk/page/7102a956465644e1a74468a9bf732cad/pic/b098fd4052374811942d0a78c9748dd6/full_width/check/

We subscribe to the Bug club which is an online reading resource. This exciting website has books, games and rewards for the children. The children all have their own individual log on so that we can make sure that the things on their site are just right for them. The children all have books at the correct level for them to read and there are questions for them to answer about the books. Correct answers will earn coins and jewels to spend in the site on rewards! If you would like to ask any questions about how to use it or if the children have forgotten their username or passwords, please feel free to see us either before or after school.

Grammar and Spelling Bug Club

The children can also play games on the Grammar and Spelling Bug Club section. This compliments the learning that we undertake in school.
