Literacy

In FS1 we spend lots of time developing our speaking and listening skills. Our literacy sessions include shared stories, discussions about particular themes and topics, singing and group story-telling.

You can support your child's development of communication and language skills by encouraging talk and discussion at home. Click on the article below to find out more about how you can do this.

We also spend lots of time in our fiction and non-fiction reading areas. Children can access these cosy and inviting areas areas both independently and with staff to share a story or find out more about a particular subject.

We also welcome parents to join their child in looking at our books during the first 15 minutes of each session.

Developing a love of books and reading from an early age is critical to every child's development as a reader - click on the article below to find out more about how you can support your child when they are learning to read.
