This half term we are continuing with our previous topic of Dangerous Animals for a couple of weeks. We will then move on to our new topic of Army and War. This topic will commence with a trip to the Leeds Royal Armouries Museum on Wednesday 21st January! During this topic we will learn about: the countries involved in WW1, the different roles people had during the war, what it was like to be on the front line, what rationing was, what it was like to be in an air raid and what propaganda is and how it can be used to influence public opinion.
Our literacy learning will link in to our topic. Children will begin by writing a narrative based on a flash back to being in the war. Our class reader will be ‘War Horse’ by Michael Morporgo, children will write an argument for or against animals going to war. Children will also write a letter to a loved one from the viewpoint of a soldier.
In maths we will be learning about fractions, decimals and percentages, data handling, measures, co-ordinates and angles.
The week before half term is science week! This is very exciting as the children in Y6 thoroughly enjoy science. We will also be visiting Eureka!
Other/ General News
We will be having another Independent Learning Day on Friday 30th January. This is very exciting as the last one was a great success! Children really flourished when taking control of their learning and worked fantastically in their teams.
