Values & Ethos

Our school is an exciting, caring and innovative place that is totally committed to providing our children and families with the best opportunities. Dinnington is a place where child centred learning is combined with creative education and stimulating life experiences; where learning takes place naturally through discovery and investigation developing our children's enquiring minds and offering them the very best start to their formal education. Our aim is to provide our children with opportunities to establish a lifelong love of learning.

Values & Ethos

We believe children thrive and achieve their potential through:

  • A safe and secure environment, where they do not fear failure, as it is a stepping stone to greater success and understanding.
  • A happy place where their thoughts, feelings and interests are used by our teachers to provide a stimulating, learning experience and create an atmosphere of belonging.
  • A warm, caring atmosphere, where communication, team work and independence are a central part of the school ethos and pupils are encouraged to develop them through celebration and reward.
  • A curriculum based on pupil interests, which is stimulating, practical, skills based and caters for pupils' needs on an individual basis.
  • Equal access to the curriculum, regardless of ability, gender, race,  or religion.
  • Developing and nurturing an appreciation of the importance of Values Based Education and Lifelong Learning.
  • A environment that focuses on the development of the whole child.

EVERYONE FEELS WELCOMED AND THAT THEY BELONG

At DCPS we aim for all learners, staff, parents/carers and visitors to feel welcomed as soon as they enter the School, that they belong to the DCPS community and that DCPS belongs to them. We aim for everyone in our community to unite together as one and feel proud to be part of DCPS.

EVERYONE FEELS KNOWN AND ARE CARED FOR

We aim to know all our learners, staff, parents/carers and visitors as individuals. What their likes and dislikes are, what their dreams and ambitions are, as well as how they best learn and achieve. We want everyone at DCPS to feel as though they are looked after and supported at all times by each other.

EVERYONE’S TALENTS ARE NURTURED AND THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS CELEBRATED

DCPS is a school with high expectations of all our students and staff and we encourage and celebrate this. However, we recognise that everyone is intelligent in different ways. DCPS develops, recognises and celebrates all of our students’ and staffs’ achievements in a wide array of areas which enrich our community and school experience.

EVERYONE EXPERIENCES AMAZING TEACHING/TRAINING AND SUPPORT

We want all our students to experience the best possible learning through engaging, lively, thought provoking and ambitious teaching. To achieve this we will ensure that all staff have access to top quality professional development which supports them to achieve the very best from our students.

EVERYONE ACHIEVES BEYOND EXPECTATION

We want staff and students to reach beyond where they think they can achieve and aspire to greatness. We believe, ‘The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.’

EVERYONE IS PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE AND PLAYS A POSITIVE PART IN SOCIETY

We believe that it is our duty to help prepare young people to take their place in Modern British Society and play an active role as positive citizens. We aim for everyone at DCPS to view themselves not just as citizens of Rotherham, or even Britain but as part of a Global Society.
