Welcome to the Y6 team.
Our teachers are Miss Ellison, Mrs Law, Ms McCarty and Miss Howard.
Summer Term 2
Now that SATs are over, we are spending our time focusing on our writing to produce the best pieces we can!
We are also producing 3d sculptures of rats inspired by our novel Trash. We are looking at our science learning too, with a focus on human biology.
If you head up to Y6 over the summer term, you'll see our best pieces of work going on display in our Hall of Fame outside our classrooms - come and take a look!
If you do visit us, you might hear or see us rehearsing our Leaving Assembly for the end of the year as we prepare to move on to our new schools.
This term, we are carrying on with preparation for our SATs and also sitting them! Once they are over, we will be having a focus on writing and science. We will also have mini projects over the weeks and doing artwork to demonstrate our amazing skills.
Our Novel Study is Trash by Andy Mulligan and we are already really enjoying reading it!
This term, we are preparing for our SATs tests in May with a particular focus on reading. We are starting the term by studying the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman and comparing it to the film. We are also working hard on our maths, SPaG and writing ready for the end of Y6 now we are over half way there.
In Spring 1, our learning is starting based around our novel study book Rose Blanche. We have also watched the film The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas which very closely links to the story of Rose Blanche.
In Y6 we practise spelling every day.
Here are the list of spelling rules and words that you will have learnt by the end of the year.
Why not spend a bit of time each week asking grown-ups at home to test you!
This term our key question is
"Can sport unite people?"
We are learning all about Ancient Greece and the Olympics and will be designing our own school sports kit at the end of our project.
Our novel study next term will be
'Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief'.
We will spend lots of lesson time using this book- why not get a head start and read it? It's available at the Dinnington Library!
Make sure you take part in this summer's Big Friendly Read Challenge to earn yourself lots of prizes!
Our Y6 team have visited the library to be shown how to use it and prepare to take part in the Big Friendly Read summer reading challenge.
We loved it!
Here's our autumn 1 newsletter filled with information about our learning and key dates for your diary!
To start our time in year 6, we had friendship week based around the theme of "I am special and together we are awesome" and we did lots of different activities linked to this learning!
Take a look at our photos from the week:
