Our theme for the first half of the Autumn term is Wheels, Wings and Things. We have been looking at different ways of travelling. We started our theme with a WOW day, travelling around South Yorkshire on different types of public transport. We have been looking at transport on land, on the sea and in the air.
In Literacy we learnt about the good features of 'Lists, Labels and Captions'. We used this to make our own captions of our WOW day trip.
we then looked at 'Recount' writing. We had to use time connectives, adjectives, a good sentence opener, a personal comment and sequence our recount writing. Some of us made our own mini books. Others made a class book.
Next we worked on 'Narrative' writing. We have been reading the story of 'Mr Gumpys Outing'. It is really funny. We have been acting out our own version of the story in small groups and using this to help us write our own version.
In numeracy we have been using the math's equipment and whiteboards to help us add to small numbers together. We have drawn what we have done on the whiteboards. We have also been counting in 2's by saying the odd numbers quietly and the even number loudly.
In theme work, we have been making predictions about objects in the classroom that might float, then testing our ideas. We also were set the challenge of using a sheet of tin foil to make a boat that floats and will carry Mr Gumpy and the bears! It was hard work!
