Dinnington Community Primary School

Nurture Group

Welcome back all you sunshiners. Hope you had a cracking Easter!

This term we are learning about the author Julia Donaldson focusing on her story The Gruffalo, one of her most loved stories. We are going on a wow visit to Sherwood Pines where we will be taking part in a Gruffalo orienteering experience trying to find the illusive Gruffalo and the characters that he meets on his journey through the deep dark wood.

We will be writing a recount of our visit and will be doing a character description on our favourite character from the story. Also we will be looking at different story settings including settings from Julia Donaldson's other stories like Room on the broom and Gruffalo's child.

In numeracy we are concentrating on measurement and securing our number bonds. This will involve measuring and comparing the Gruffalo and the mouse's footprints ,Making potions to measure capacity (liquid) and in weighing we will be making food for our Gruffalo's feast (stay tuned for more information).

Our essential question is....... What makes a story magical?

In numeracy  we are counting, learning all about addition and subtraction and finding out all about 2D and 3D shapes.
